Ok, here we go. The first post has got to be as intimidating to start with as writing a blank page. You just never know what to say.
So what is this whole thing about?
My name is Nivi I live in the UK. I am a web developer by day and gig addict any other day. I am registered legally blind due to an eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa (which is a bit long and technical so I call it wonky vision). This does not stop me from doing many things like going to gigs and taking photos. I just have to do things a bit differently.
I have been a big lover of music for as long as I remember and have been to a fair few gigs over the years. I do enjoy a lot of progressive / symphonic metal and some more extreme stuff and then I also love electronic music, nordic folk and world music in general amongs many other style. If it has atmosphere and a good beat, I’d give it a go!
It’s no secret that the pandemic was a very difficult time for many people, including me. Music and community has been a big way to heal for me.
I have been going to concerts a lot more often since the pandemic ended and taken the opportunity to travel a bit. I have also challenged myself to get closer to the front row and even snap a few photos. It is something I really enjoy and it also makes it easier for me to see the artist.
I have to do things differently because of the way my eyes work. Along the way I have met many people who have to do things differently because of the way their body or their brain works.
I thought it would be cool to start a space to share the stories and share tips and trick on how to make gigs and travel more accessible. I have also invited people to also share their stories and tips. I hope this gives different perspectives here. I have benefited greatly from other people doing this on the internet so I hope this blog helps you and inspired you too.
If you are interested in contributing, you can always drop me a line!
I have a few concerts lined up this year as well as my first ever big festival so I will be back soon with more concert tales.
In the meantime, here are some photos from my favourite gigs from last year. You can check out more on my Instagram.
